- Kusum Abhyankar (कुसुम अभ्यंकर): Writer of novels.[1]
- Madhav Achawal (माधव अचवल) (1925–1980): Wrote literary criticism for Satyakatha (सत्यकथा) under the name Rasik (रसिक). Also wrote collection of essays and other creative writing such as drama.[2][3]
- M. N. Advant (म. ना. अदवंत): Wrote collections of short essays Manache Sankalp (मनाचे संकल्प) and Manachi Mushafari (मनाची मुशाफरी), and a collection of short stories Sanjiwani (संजीवनी). Painjan (पैंजण) is his collection of poetry by Marathi shahir (शाहीर). Wrote Marathitil Kahi Kathakar (मराठीतील काही कथाकार) (1970).
- Ganesh Janardan Agashe (गणेश जनार्दन आगाशे): Presided over Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (मराठी साहित्य सम्मेलन) at Indur in 1917. Wrote a few elegies, including Birudawali (बिरुदावली) concerning Mahadev Govind Ranade.
- Sukanya Agashe (सुकन्या आगाशे) (born 1944): Writer of short stories. Na Lihileli Pane (न लिहिलेली पाने) is the title of one of her two story collections. Wrote autobiographical जगाचा डॉक्टर द्वारकादास कोटणीस.
- Sohirobanath Ambiye(सहिरोबानाथ आंबिये): An 18th century poet from Goa.
- Amrutaray(अमृतराय) (1698–1753): Poet from Aurangabad. Introduced Katav vrutta (कटाव वृत्त) into Marathi.
- Madhav Shrihari Ane(माधव श्रीहरि अणे): Presided over Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (मराठी साहित्य सम्मेलन) at Gwalher in 1928. Received Padma Vibhushan Award in 1968.
- Ashok Bagwe(अशोक बागवे): Poet. Alam (आलम) is the title of his poem collection.
- Honaji Bal (होनाजी बाळ) (1754–1844): A shahir (शाहीर) poet.
- Shrinivas Narayan Banhatti(श्रीनिवास नारायण बनहट्टी): (1901–1975): Received in 1969 a Sahitya Akademi Award for his biographical work Natyacharya Deval-Govinda Ballal Deval Yanche Charitra, Vangmaya, Jeevankarya (नाट्याचार्य देवल- गोविंद बल्लाळ देवल यांचे चरित्र, वाङ्मय, जीवनकार्य).
- Hira Banasode(हिरा बनसोडे): Poetess. Purnima (पूर्णिमा), Phiryad ('फिर्याद), and Phoenix (फिनिक्स) are the titles of her three poem collections. Has written novel Abhala-ewadhi(आभाळाएवढी).[4]
- Achyut Barve(अच्युत बर्वे): (died 1982): Novelist. Wrote novel Kaleidoscope (क्यालिडोस्कोप)[5]
- Vinayak Laxman Barve(विनायक लक्ष्मण बर्वे) (1896–1948): Wrote short stories, short essays, novels, poems, and plays. Wrote novel Muchkund Dari (मुचकुंद दरी) (1940).
- Dinkar Keshav Bedekar(दिनकर केशव बेडेकर) (1910–1973): Wrote Dharma Chintan (धर्मचिंतन).
- Narayan Keshav Behere(नारायण केशव बेहेरे): Poet and historian. Wrote in English The Background of Maratha Renaissance in the 17th Century (1946). Wrote the elegy Smarani (स्मरणी).
- Ganapati Vasudev Behere(गणपती वासुदेव बेहेरे): Editor of periodical Sobat (सोबत) in which he wrote a literary column Gawaksh (गवाक्ष), and another column, Kataksha (कटाक्ष). Used Anil Vishwas (अनिल विश्वास) as one of his pen names.
- S. J. Bhagwat(श्री. ज. भागवत): Wrote Jivan-Chintan (जीवन-चिंतन) (1958).
- Indrajit Bhalerao(इंद्रजित भालेराव): Poet.
- Vinayak Laxman Bhave(विनायक लक्ष्मण भावे) (1871–1926): Wrote in 1919 Maharashtra Saraswat (महाराष्ट्र सारस्वत) concerning old Marathi literature. (Shankar Gopal Tulpule (शंकर गोपाळ तुळपुळे) revised it in 1951.)

- Dinkar Dattatrey Bhosle(दिनकर दत्तात्रेय भोसले) (born 1930): Wrote under the female pen name Charuta Sagar (चारुता सागर) Nagin (नागिन), a collection of his short stories pertaining to rural life in Maharashtra.
- Padmini Biniwale(पद्मिनी बिनिवाले): Writer of short stories.
- Vishnu Vinayak Bokil(विष्णु विनायक बोकिल) (1907–1973) : Wrote short stories.
- Raosaheb Ranganath Borade (रावसाहेब रंगनाथ बोराडे) (1940-?): Wrote novel Pachola (पाचोळा).
- Sopandev Chaudhari(सोपानदेव चौधरी) (died 1982): Poet. (Son of Bahinabai Chaudhari.)
- Sharachchandra Chirmule(शरच्चंद्र चिरमुले) (1931–1992): Writer of Shri-Shillak (श्रीशिल्लक), a collection of short stories.
- Malati Madhav Dandekar(मालती माधव दांडेकर) (1911–1986): Writer of short stories, novels, and literature for children. Wrote Wiwahanantar (विवाहानंतर) and play Murti (मूर्ति).
- Vinayak Pandurang Dandekar(विनायक पांडुरंग दांडेकर): Writer of short essays.
- Anil Dange(अनिल डांगे): Writer of short stories. Swastik (स्वस्तिक ) is the title of one of his books.
- Arjun Dangle(अर्जुन डांगळे): Poet. Chhawani Halate Ahe (छावणी हलते आहे) is the title of his poem collection.
- Govind Dattatray Darekar(गोविंद दत्तात्रय दरेकर) (1874–1926): Wrote poetry with nationalistic fervor under the pen name Kavi Govind (कवि गोविंद). Many of his poems, including रणावीण स्वातंत्र्य कोणा मिळाले?, were proscribed by the then British government ruling over India.
- Purshottam Darvhekar(पुरुषोत्तम दार्व्हेकर) (1926–1999): Playwright, actor, director. Wrote the play Katyar Kalajat Ghusali (कट्यार काळजात घुसली).
- Snehalata Dasanurkar(स्नेहलता दसनूरकर) (died 2003): Writer of short stories.,[8][9]
- Chhaya Datar(छाया दातार): Writer of short stories.
- Prabhakar Janardan Datar(प्रभाकर जनार्दन दातार) (c. 1755 – 1843): Shahir poet popularly known as Prabhakar.
- Datta Davajekar(दत्ता डावजेकर): Poet.
- Pravin Davane (प्रवीण दवणे): Writer of poetry, short stories, and essays.[10][11]

- Kamal Desai(कमल देसाई) (born 1928): Writer of short stories. Ratrandin Amha Yudhhacha Prasang (रात्रंदिन आम्हा युद्धाचा प्रसंग) (1962), Kala Surya (काळा सूर्य), and Hat Ghalnari Bai (हॅट घालणारी बाई) (1975) are some of the collections of her short stories, the last one having been translated into English.
- Gajanan Tryambak Deshpande(गजानन त्र्यंबक देशपांडे) (1910–1989): A scholar of Sanskrit literature. Received in 1959 a Sahitya Akademi Award for his work Bharatiya Sahitya Shastra (भारतीय साहित्यशास्त्र).
- Purushottam Yashawant Deshpande(पुरुषोत्तम यशवंत देशपांडे): Received in 1962 a Sahitya Akademi Award for his work Anamikachi Chintanika (अनामिकाची चिंतनिका). (He was the father of Nirmala Deshpande.)
- Waman Achyut Deshpande(वामन अच्युत देशपांडे): Biographer.[12]

- Jyotsna Keshav Devadhar (ज्योत्स्ना केशव देवधर) (born 1926): Writer of short stories primarily concerning women's issues. Her short story collections include Winjhanwara (विंझणवारा), Pangharun (Sayali) (पांघरूण (सायली) ), Tejaswini Yachi Janmi (तेजस्विनी याचि जन्मी), Muthabhar Manusaki (मूठभर माणुसकी), and Niwadak Jyotsna Devadhar (निवडक ज्योत्स्ना देवधर).[14][15]

- Laxman Maruti Gaikwad(लक्ष्मण मारुती गायकवाड) (born 1956): Received a Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988 for his autobiographical Uchalya (उचल्या).
- Monika Gajendragadkar (मोनिका गजेंद्रगडकर): Writer of short stories and editor at Mauj Prakashan. Aart (आर्त) and Bhoop (भूप) are two collections of her short stories. (Daughter of Vidyadhar Pundalik.)
- Prabha Ganorkar (प्रभा गानोरकर): Poetess. Co-compiler of Wangmayin Samdnya-Sankalpana Kosh (वाङ्मयीन संज्ञा-संकल्पना कोश)
- Shankar Kashinath Garge (शंकर काशीनाथ गर्गे) (1889–1931): Wrote 51 short one-act plays and soliloquies (नाट्यछटा) under the pen name Diwakar (दिवाकर).
- Dattatreya Kondo Ghate (दत्तात्रेय कोंडो घाटे): Wrote poetry under the pen name Kavi Datta (कवि दत्त).
- Anantphandi Gholap (अनंतफंदी घोलप) (1744-?): A shahir (शाहीर) poet commonly known by his first name अनंतफंदी.
- Parashuram Ballal Godbole (पुरुषोत्तम बल्लाळ गोडबोले) (1799–1874): Translated into Marathi some Sanskrit literature such as UttarRamCharit (उत्तररामचरित), Shakuntal (शाकुंतल), and Mruchchhakatik (मृच्छकटिक). Compiled Navanit (नवनीत), a collection of poetry by earlier poets. Wrote a critic Kekadarsha (केकादर्श) on Kekavali (केकावली) by Moropant.
- Manik Sitaram Godghate (माणिक सीताराम गोडघाटे) (born 1940): Poet. Pen name Grace (ग्रेस). Chandramadhawiche Pradesh (चंद्रमाधवीचे प्रदेश), Rajaputra Ani Darling (राजपुत्र आणि डार्लिंग), and Sandhyakalachya Kawita ( संध्याकाळच्या कविता) are the titles of three of his poem collections.
- Vishnubhat Godse (विष्णुभट गोडसे) (1827–1904): Wrote an eyewitness account of the unsuccessful struggle of India in 1857 to overthrow the rule over it of British East India Company: Majha Prawas (माझा प्रवास अथवा सन १८५७ सालच्या बंडाची हकिकत).

- Dattatraya Narsinha Gokhale (दत्तात्रय नरसिंह गोखले) (born 1922): Received in 1961 a Sahitya Akademi Award for his biographical work Dr. Ketkar (डॉ. केतकर).
- Chandrashekhar Gorhe (चंद्रशेखर गोर्हे) (1871–1937): Poet. Pen name Kavi Chandrashekhar (कवि चंद्रशेखर). Had been designated as Rajkavi (राजकवि) of Baroda.
- Deepa Gowarikar (दीपा गोवारीकर): Writer of short stories. Majhe Pan Wishwa (माझे पण विश्व), Sashtanga Dhappa (साष्टांग धप्प), and Wasa (वसा) are the titles of her three books.
- Gangadhar Balwant Gramopadhye (गंगाधर बळवंत ग्रामोपाध्ये) (1909–2002): Wrote on Marathi sant (संत) literature, medieval literature, and Marathi language.
- Narayan Murlidhar Gupte (नारायण मुरलीधर गुप्ते): Wrote poems under the pen name Bee.
- Vasant Gurjar (वसंत गुर्जर): Poet. Aranya (अरण्य) is the title of a collection of his poems.
- Viththal Sitaram Gurjar (विठ्ठल सीताराम गुर्जर) (1885–1962): Wrote short stories and poetry. Translated Rakhaldas Banerjee's Shashank into Marathi.
- Shriniwas Hemade : writes satire and Philosophical writings in Marathi. Conferred Anant Kanekar Puraskar by Marathi Sahitya Parishad for his write up in Purush Spanadan Diwali 2009 :Maitrichi Baajarpeth : Maitri Vikatach Ghyavayachi Asate.
- Vitthal Waman Hadap (विठ्ठल वामन हडप) (1899–1960): Wrote semihistorical novels about the 18th century rule of Peshawe in Maharashtra, including Peshawaitil Paschim Digwijay (पेशवाईतील पश्चिमदिग्विजय) and Kadambarimay Peshawai (कादंबरीमय पेशवाई).
- Lakshmanshastri Moreshwarshastri Halbe (लक्ष्मणशास्त्री मोरेश्वरशास्त्री हळबे) (1831–1904). Wrote novel Muktamala (मुक्तामाला) (1861).
- Prakash Holkar (प्रकाश होळकर): Poet. Korade Nakshatra (कोरडे नक्षत्र) is the title of his poem collection.
- Hemant V. Inamdar (हेमंत वि. इनामदार): Writer of books on sant literature (संतवाङ्मय).[19]
- Pratima Ingole (प्रतिमा इंगोळे): Writer of short stories and novels.[20]
- Suhasini Irlekar (सुहासिनी इर्लेकर): Poetess and literary critic.[21]
- Balshastri Jambhekar (आचार्य बाळशास्त्री जांभेकर) (1810–1846): Started the first Marathi newspaper Mumbai Darpan (मुंबई दर्पण) in 1832 at his age 22.
- Anand Vinayak Jategoankar (आनंद विनायक जातेगांवकर): Wrote play Jyacha Tyacha Vithoba (ज्याचा त्याचा विठोबा).
- Hemant Jogalekar (हेमंत जोगळेकर): Poet.
- Yogini Jogalekar (योगिनी जोगळेकर) (1925–2005): Wrote 50 novels, 39 collections of short stories, and some collections of poems, including poems for children.[22]

- Ram Jagannath Joshi (राम जगन्नाथ जोशी) (1758–1813): A shahir (शाहीर) poet popularly known as रामजोशी.
- Sudhakar Dattatraya Joshi (सुधाकर दत्तात्रय जोशी): Coedited with G. Y. Kamat and Anand Nadkarni Keshavsut Samiksha (केशवसुत समीक्षा).
- Vaman Gopal Joshi (वामन गोपाळ जोशी) (1881–1956): A journalist and playwright. Wrote play Rakshasi Mahatwakansha (राक्षसी महत्त्वाकांक्षा).

- Yashwant Gopal Joshi (यशवंत गोपाळ जोशी) (1901–1963): Writer of short stories. Editor/Publisher of monthly Prasad (प्रसाद). Chaired Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in 1947. Shewagyachya Shenga (शेवग्याच्या शेंगा), Dudhachi Ghagar (दुधाची घागर), Tarang (तरंग), and Kimaya Kagadachi (किमया कागदाची) are the titles of collections of his short stories and essays.

- Chandrakant Kakodkar (चंद्रकान्त काकोडकर)(1921–1988): Wrote novels, including Shyama (श्यामा) (1963).
- Keshav Narayan Kale (केशव नारायण काळे) (1904–1974): Critic, translator, film script writer, and actor associated with Prabhat Studio (प्रभात स्टुडिओ) .
- Shripad Ramkrushna Kale (श्रीपाद रामकृष्ण काळे) (died 1999): Writer of short stories.[25]
- R. A. Kalele (रा. अ. काळेले): Poet. Collection of poems: Roopmati (रूपमती). Had been designated as Rajkavi (राजकवि). Wrote the critique Tambe: Ek Adhyayan (तांबे: एक अध्ययन) concerning the works of poet Bhaskar Ramchandra Tambe.
- Madhusudan Kalelkar (मधुसूदन कालेलकर) (born 1924): Poet and playwright.
- Satish Kalsekar (सतीश कळसेकर): Poet. Indriyopawishad (इंद्रियोपविषद) is the title of a collection of his poems.
- Namdev Kamble (नामदेव कांबळे): Wrote novels Sanjarang (सांजरंग), Oon Sawali (ऊनसावली), and RaghawaWel (राघववेल), the last one receiving a Sahitya Akademi Award in 1995.
- Shankar Keshav Kanetkar (शंकर केशव कानेटकर) (1893–1974): Wrote poetry under the pen name Girish (गिरीश). He was a member of Ravikiran Mandal, (रविकिरण मंडळ), a group of poets. (Father of playwright Vasant Kanetkar and classical singer Madhusudan Kanetkar.)
- Madhav Kanitkar (माधव कानिटकर): Writer of short stories, novels, and literature for children.[26]
- Vasudeo Govind Kanitkar (वासुदेव गोविंद कानिटकर): Presided over Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (मराठी साहित्य सम्मेलन) in Pune in 1906.
- V. R. Kant (वा. रा. कांत) (1913–1991): Poet. Marangandha (मरणगंध), Welanti (वेलांटी), and Wajali Wijechi Tali (वाजली विजेची टाळी) are the titles of his three poem collections.
- Raghunath Pandurang Karandikar (रघुनाथ पांडुरंग करंदीकर): Presided over Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (मराठी साहित्य सम्मेलन) in Satara in 1905.
- Janardan Nilkanth Karve (जनार्दन नीळकंठ कर्वे): Wrote popular science articles.
- Madhav Keshav Katdare (माधव केशव काटदरे) (1892–1958): Kavi Madhav Yanchi Kavita (कवि माधव यांची कविता) is a collection of his poems.
- Yashodhara Katkar (यशोधरा काटकर) (b 1954): Wrote Banjaryache Ghar (बंजार्याचे घर), Apporva, Alaukik, Ekameva (अपूर्व, अलौकिक, एकमेव), Prawas-Paryatanache Nawe Pailoo (प्रवासपर्यटनाचे नवे पैलू), Swayam Shikshit, Swayam Prakashit (स्वयं शिक्षित, स्वयं प्रकाशित), Moolmantra Kariarcha (मूलमंत्र करिअरचा), and Third Person.
- Dattatraya Keshav Kelkar (दत्तात्रय केशव केळकर): Wrote Sanskruti Sangam (संस्कृति-संगम), Kawyalochan (काव्यालोचन), and Wadali Ware (वादळी वारे).
- Digambar Gangadhar Kelkar (दिगंबर गंगाधर केळकर) (1896–1990): Wrote poems under the pen name Adnyatwasi (अज्ञातवासी).
- G. K. Kelkar (केळकर): Wrote Marathi Sahityache Simhavalokan (मराठी साहित्याचे सिंहावलोकन) (1966).
- Girijabai Kelkar (गिरिजाबाई केळकर): Writer of short stories in the early part of the 20th century. (Daughter of Narasimha Chintaman Kelkar.)
- Manohar Mahadev Kelkar (मनोहर महादेव केळकर) (1913–1994): Edited literary monthly Vangmay-Shobha (वाङ्मयशोभा) for many years starting in 1939. The book Te Maajhe Ghar (ते माझे घर) contains a collection of his articles.
- Y. N. Kelkar (य. न. केळकर): Historian. Compiled Marathi ballads from earlier times in Aitihasik Powade (ऐतिहासिक पोवाडे) in two volumes. He also wrote Wasaicha Sangram (वसईचा संग्राम).
- Mahesh Keluskar (महेश केळुसकर): Poet. Jhinajhinat (झिनझिनाट) is the title of a collection of his poetry.[27]

- B. D. Kher (भ. दा. खेर): Historical novelist.
- Chandrakant Khot (चंद्रकांत खोत): Wrote Sanyashyachi Sawali (संन्याशाची सावली), Bimba Pratibimba (बिंब प्रतिबिंब), Anathancha Nath (अनाथांचा नाथ), and Apabhraunsha (अपभ्रंश).
- Vinayak Janardan Kirtane (विनायक जनार्दन कीर्तने) (1840–1891): Wrote historic play "Thorale Madhavrao Peshwe (थोरले माधवराव पेशवे) (1861).

- Achyut Vaman Kolhatkar (अच्युत वामन कोल्हटकर) (1879–1931): Assumed the name Achyut Balawant Kolhatkar (अच्युत बळवंत कोल्हटकर). Founded daily newspaper Sandesh (संदेश).
- Balkrushna Hari Kolhatkar (बाळकृष्ण हरी कोल्हटकर) (1926–1994): Playwright and poet who used the name बाळ कोल्हटकर.[29]

Anganat Majhya (अंगणात माझ्या) and Lagangandhar (लगनगंधार) are the titles of two collections of her poems. (Wife of Mangesh Bhagawant Padki.)

- Jayakrishna Keshav Upadhye (जयकृष्ण केशव उपाध्ये) (1882–1937): Poet. Wrote Popatpanchi (पोपटपंची) and a parody of Bhagwad Geeta.
- Prabhakar Waman Urdhwareshe (प्रभाकर वामन ऊर्ध्वरेषे): Received in 1989 Sahitya Akademi Award for his autobiographical Harawalele Diwas (हरवलेले दिवस).
- Shankar Vaidya (शंकर वैद्य): Poet and critic. Wrote poetry under the pen name Aditya (आदित्य). (Husband of Sarojini Vaidya.)
- S. V. Vartak (वर्तक) (1885–1950): Wrote plays Andhalyanchi Shala (आंधळ्यांची शाळा), Lapandav (लपंडाव), and Takshashila (तक्षशीला), all in 1933. (Andhalyanchi Shala was the first Marathi play to have a female actor. Its stage presentation also introduced to Marathi theater naturalistic sets and natural acting, and background music and modern lighting.)
